Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week!

During National Volunteer Appreciation Week, we want to highlight the great impact our volunteers offer by their dedicated service. As an example of impact, last month, volunteers and work release inmates serving here sorted a total of 169,600 pounds of food and Family Box Day participants helped prepare more than 270,000 pounds of food for distribution.  That’s just in one month! Virtually every day volunteers are working side-by-side with staff.   In the 12 months from March 2014 to February 2015, inmates and volunteers contributed 8,639 hours of service.  When you factor in more→

Former Board Member Honored for His Shining Example

Today, we had the privilege of honoring a former board member Norris Hardy for his dedicated service to the Food Bank, particularly during its formative years. Professionally, Mr. Hardy operated a trucking service that supported the movement of mail, leading him to be instrumental in helping the local branches of the US Postal Service engage in the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive conducted b...y the National Association of Letter Carriers on the Saturday before Mother's Day. Kroger Shows Its Caring

Kroger staff from Houston and two of our local stores stopped by today to deliver the Souper Bowl of Caring funds collected by local stores around the time of the Super Bowl.
