Successful Food Drives for Entergy and 4-H

On Saturday, October 11, more than 30 employees of Entergy and about 20 young people and adult supervisors associated with 4-H conducted food drives in front of several food retailers throughout the Golden Triangle and beyond.  Their commitment of time and energy inspired good public response and generated collection of more than 5,500 pounds of food and more than $4,400 for the benefit of the Food Bank.  Their efforts yielded food and funds sufficient to help provide about 17,500 meals in our community. Share Your Christmas is an annual joint collaborative effort between the Southeast Texas Food Bank and KBMT to raise funds and collect food to sustain the Food Bank through the high demand holiday season. Star is 13 years old and is in the 8th grade attending Clute Intermediate School. Star is an A/B student in school and loves to help people. Star loves basketball and cheerleading. Music is a big part of her life, too. She spends the summer with her Grandmother Ruby Owens who is on staff at the Southeast Texas Food Bank. Ms. Ruby runs the Retail Store and oversees the non-food area and this is where Star does most of her volunteering. Star is also very helpful in other areas such as office help. Beaumont Enterprise Article, July 21, 2014 Lamar linebacker Logan Moss has been nominated to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, the most prestigious off-the-field honor in college football. Moss, an Orangefield native, organized a group of players to volunteer at the local food bank and spoke to the local middle school students about anti-bullying. JoAnn’s in Beaumont has donated to the Southeast Texas Food Bank for more than two years now and we want to say a big THANK YOU to them. JoAnn’s donates once a month and are in an ongoing partnership with the SETX Food Bank at the store level. In their expression for a higher level of service to the community they made the decision to partner with us as they are focused on improving key areas. One of our most enthusiastic volunteers here at the Southeast Texas Food Bank works in the School Tools Program.  Linda Faraci comes to the School Tools Supply Room two days a week to help select and pack school supplies for the teachers whose students qualify for the assistance.  She is the model for customer service and understands the important role teachers play in the success of their students.
