Featured Volunteer – Diane Lee

06/28/2016

Diane was born in Colorado and raised in California and New York. After graduation from college in South Carolina she joined the same engineering/construction firms as her father.

Diane has worked all over the US and Alberta, Canada for a total of eleven moves ending up in Southeast Texas in 2006. She agreed to keep working at the firm as long as no more relocations were required. She finally retired in 2015 after working for the same firm as a cost engineer for 43 years.

Diane knew that she wanted to do volunteer work after retirement in addition to spending a great deal of time on hobbies such as gardening, quilting, sewing, knitting and more. She found the Southeast Texas Food Bank and started working in the Food Sorting area on Fridays. After retirement she added Wednesdays, then this year she added Monday Non-Food Sorting to her list of activities.

Larry, Diane’s husband, and she are relocating once again, this time to a home in New Mexico. Diane has already found two food banks in her new city so she hopes to continue her volunteer work there. Working at the food bank had provided much wanted structure after retiring and has given Diane the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of people for a great cause.

We, at the SETX Food Bank, want to say how much we appreciate Diane’s consistency and sweet smile while she has been here. Diane is always ready to help, such as when we caught her in this picture, ready to teach a new volunteer how to sign in. We are going to miss her very much but we wish her the greatest happiness and success at her new home in New Mexico and we hope she loves her new volunteer work as much as we love her.
