An Update about Support Activities in Response to COVID-19 Impact

03/19/2020

As part of our ongoing community support during these challenging times, we continue to provide free application assistance for the following programs through our Social Services Enrollment staff:

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP – often referred to as food stamps)
Medicaid Programs
Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)

This application support is currently only being conducted by phone, but our staff can guide you through the process during a phone conversation. Please call Laura or Anna at (409) 839-8777 ext. 101 for assistance.

We are also doing our best to follow updates from local school districts to help highlight their feeding operations for students during periods of school closure. We are making periodic updates on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/SETXFOODBANK) to share this information as we become aware of it.

We continue to work closely with our operating partner agencies to do our best to supply them with additional food resources even as we face many of the same supply challenges experienced around the nation.

We are also planning for upcoming direct distributions of food in strategically targeted communities where our agency presence may be diminished because of the COVID-19 impact and are implementing plans for special support distributions targeted to youth through schools engaged in meal distribution and to seniors though senior living communities.

Please continue to monitor our social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) for updates about these future activities.

We are aiming to maintain a strong schedule of volunteer activities because much of our current and future response depends on volunteer support. We encourage and welcome volunteers, but are asking those who have signed up to volunteer, but who may feel ill, not to report to the Food Bank as a preventative action to keep other volunteers and staff safe. For those who would like to help by volunteering to assemble food boxes like our Senior and Family food boxes or Backpack food sacks for children, please follow this link https://setxfoodbank.org/get-involved/volunteer/ to find an available shift.

We are also asking our generous donors to help us with the purchase of cleaning and hygiene supplies to help us keep our work environment clean and safe and to help us address additional costs we will incur in expanding our food box production for children and seniors. Again, thank you for your support!
