Here’s an excerpt from a recent news release acknowledging a large gift for the Food Bank’s mission from the Beaumont Foundation of America. Special thanks to the Foundation for its support of local causes and food banks around the state of Texas!
The Beaumont Foundation of America recently selected the Southeast Texas Food Bank as a grant recipient, awarding $75,000 to the Food Bank to help strengthen its mission of feeding the hungry in Southeast Texas. The funds were specifically awarded to help improve access to nutritious food for low-income residents in underserved communities in the eight counties within the Food Bank’s service territory.
This donation is one of many made to food banks throughout the state of Texas in 2015 by the Beaumont Foundation. The Foundation’s total historical support of food banks in Texas now exceeds $10 million.
The Southeast Texas Food Bank is currently engaged in a strategic planning process designed to enhance its response to community hunger as it prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary later this year.
“Approximately one in four Southeast Texans is deemed food insecure by measurements used by the hunger fighting organization Feeding America, meaning they have inadequate access to wholesome foods on a regular basis,” said Maher. “Our purchasing power will allow us to stretch these funds effectively and reduce some of that food insecurity in our community. It is an honor for us to partner with the Beaumont Foundation to accomplish this important goal.”
