Boy Scouts Conduct First Annual Scouting for Food Drive

The Three Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts held its first annual Scouting for Food drive for the benefit of those served by the Southeast Texas Food Bank on Saturday, March 7. Dozens of Scout units throughout 10 counties in the region collected food by going door-to-door.

The Scouts brought the food to Three Rivers Council for pickup on Monday, March 9 by the Southeast Texas Food Bank or delivered it directly to hunger fighting agencies in their immediate community that are associated with the Southeast Texas Food Bank or Houston Food Bank’s mission. Early estimates are that at least 10,000 pounds of food was collected through the drive.

Special thanks to the Scouts and their leaders for their hard work in canvassing neighborhoods and to GHX Industrial which sponsored the bag production for this large project.

Did you know that a $10 donation can provide up to 30 meals for desperate people in your community? By making a donation, you are helping to ensure that hungry children in Southeast Texas are adequately nourished, that none of our senior citizens are forced to chose between medicine and food, and that every family facing a crisis can at least have the assurance of food on the table.

Your gift goes a long, long way!
