In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, we are restoring basic operations at the Food Bank and transitioning back to a model of sharing food and water with our partner distribution agencies, especially those engaged in any ongoing disaster relief, as well as direct distributions in the form of Mobile Pantries in communities spread around our eight county service territory. As partner agencies are able to resume their ordinary operations, they are receiving their share of our food commodities to assist them in serving their local communities and any spikes in food insecurity caused by the storm.
We are receiving strong support from the Feeding America and Feeding Texas networks, as well as other national and regional organizations, and hope those partnerships will enhance our ability to respond to food, water, and hygiene needs that may need our attention.
Of course, the general public’s willingness to rally around those displaced or otherwise affected by this historic storm is playing a key role in our capacity to react and respond. The list of items needed and ways to help given below can guide a proactive response and help you support our efforts to bring good nutrition to those displaced or affected members of our community we are privileged to serve.
