Susie James worked for Jefferson County for 34 years which included time as Chief Deputy and Interim Tax Assessor Collector.
In 2001 her husband David and she moved from Port Arthur to Fannett. In 2013, she moved to Lumberton, where she currently resides.
After retiring, she has enjoyed traveling with her friends and family. Yellowstone Park, the Grand Canyon, California and Alaska are some of the places she has visited since retirement. She especially enjoys cruising, and recently traveled to Hawaii. We wonder what is next on her bucket list!
She has 2 sons, David and his wife Kelly, who have 3 children, Kate, Jack and Charlie, as well as Jeremy and his wife Brittany who also have 3 children, Skylar, Anthony and Alex. She is a member of Woodcrest Methodist Church in Lumberton. Susie also enjoys gardening as well as volunteering at the Southeast Texas Food Bank, meeting other volunteers who are also retired. Her grandchildren are her special joy. She is very active in their lives, watching their activities and running them here and there. She is a wonderful grandmother!
Susie is a loyal and hard worker. She comes to the Food Bank every time she can, even making lots of extra trips that are not on the schedule to help in the office, answer the phones, assist agencies, help with the donation department and with our special Food Day event. She brings sunshine every time she comes and she is a shining star in our galaxy of volunteers.
Thanks, Susie, for making this place better by coming and working so hard. You are truly one who is,
Leading the fight against hunger in Southeast Texas!
