The annual national Postal Service food drive called Stamp Out Hunger is set for Saturday, May 10. The National Association of Letter Carriers sponsors the drive by inviting the public to place bags of non-perishable items next to their mailboxes for pickup during postal routes on that date.
The items collected in our service territory come to the Southeast Texas Food Bank for distribution to hungry families within the eight counties we serve. This food drive is the second biggest annual drive behind the Share Your Christmas drive, so we are grateful for the boost to our inventory heading into the summer months. Across the nation last year, the Stamp Out Hunger campaign collected almost 75 million pounds of food.
We invite all Southeast Texans to share bounty with those in need by leaving a bag of food items for pickup by your postal carrier. And, we thank our local letter carriers for adding some weight to their mailbags on May 10 for the benefit of those who are hungry.
